It’s tough to rebuild trust after we stop drinking. For most of us, while we were still drinking, we did some pretty awful stuff. Some of it was just cringey, embarrassing stuff that was unpleasant to think about the next day… if we remembered it. But some of the things we did affected not just ourselves, but others, and our relationships with them. Alcohol damages relationships – trust gets broken.

We ask our guests: When have you had to rebuild trust? What did that look like? What did you learn?

In this episode, you’ll hear from our friends Debs, Brian, and Antje as we chat with them about rebuilding trust now that we’re in recovery – which, we all know, isn’t easy to do. Brian shares what he’s doing to work on rebuilding trust in his marriage after infidelity. Antje talks about how she found the courage to talk to her husband about an eating disorder, which helped her later when she needed to talk with him about her struggle with alcohol. Steve talks about how he’s seen the trust rebuilding in his relationship with his kids, and Julie tells us how she learned that before you can ask someone else to trust you, you need to be able to trust yourself. The group also talks about how to trust the decision to quit drinking.

Julie mentions the book Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. More information about the book and the author can be found at https://msrachelhollis.com/
