Our sobriety podcast is officially one year old!
It’s crazy to think about how far we’ve come.
You guys, it took us three hours to record Episode 0 – a 17 minute episode where we introduce ourselves. And if you’ve ever listened to it, you know how bad it is! We had zero confidence in our ability to speak (and record it!) We just knew we had a passion for sharing the kinds of conversations that saved our lives, and we were willing to muddle through until we figured out how to do that.
We talked about starting a podcast for months before it ever happened. When we finally set a date for our first release, we only gave ourselves three weeks to figure it out. (We completely underestimated how much it would take to make it happen.) In those three weeks, Steve learned to edit audio and Julie learned to build a website, in addition to both of us just learning how to host a podcast.
And social media! Neither of us really used social media at all. Julie couldn’t even handle the idea of posting a picture of herself on her personal Facebook page. In the past year, we’ve come out publicly as recovering alcoholics and embraced recovering out loud. We’ve gotten over our fear of making reels. We’ve met the most amazing people on social media through this crazy endeavor of ours.
And every week, we get the most amazing messages and emails from people telling us how much our podcast helps them. That they don’t feel alone anymore, that they are learning more about themselves by listening to the conversations that happen in our episodes. With each message, our hearts get a little bit more full. It tells us we’re doing exactly what we’re supposed to be doing.
Starting this podcast has changed our lives. It’s allowed us to grow in ways we never imagined. It’s allowed us to touch the lives of perfect strangers, who have quickly become friends. It’s pushed us so far out of our comfort zones we hardly recognize the people we were just a year ago. And it’s been so utterly fulfilling! We are so excited to be diving into year 2!
We’re only here because of YOU.
That said – we owe a huge thank you to all of you. Our listeners, for showing up each week and giving us an hour of your time. Our guests, for being willing to so vulnerably share your experiences, to share hope with others. Our tribe on IAS, for supporting and encouraging us all the way through the process, and always being there when we need you. All of our followers on social media, who help us get our message out to people that need to hear it. None of what we are doing would be possible without you all. There aren’t words to tell you how grateful we are.

Recently, we had the pleasure of being guests on the What In The World Podcast, and we talked a little bit about how we got to where we are now, as well as some great conversation about recovery. If you’re interested, you can find the episode here: https://linktr.ee/whatintheworldpodcast
